This project was able to promote the use of alternative energy sources, support sustainable development in the Kazbegi municipality, and introduce modern waste management techniques to the community through several actions.
Biogas-producing units were installed in three farms of the Kazbegi municipality villages of Arsha and Sioni. The output of each unit was 10-12 m3 of gas per day. Production of biogas using manure fostered a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
The use of generated biogas decreased the demand on energy sources and was reflected on the budget of each household in savings of 70-100 GEL per month during the summer season.
The use of biogas alleviated the pressure on local forest resources, and reduced environmental pollution through the reduction of animal waste.
