
The project Small Rivers-Big Problems focused on raising citizen awareness about flood prevention and providing skills to manage and respond to floods in two municipalities of Vani and Baghdati.
Main activities of the project:
- Mobilize communities into volunteer groups to engage in spotting the flood-prone riverbed areas, create hydrological maps and a disaster management plan
- Engage local self-government, medical unit, police and other stakeholders in flood prevention and management capacity building and train on disaster management plan
- Prepare booklets and a brochure “Self-Protection During Natural Disasters” for local self-government and community representatives
- Arrange for the preparation of hydro maps of the Kvinistskali River by an expert hydrologist, to be used by self-government, schools and village mayor’s offices
- Prepare two TV programs on the topic of small rivers and their problems
- Organize and conduct trainings for all village mayors (four villages) of Vani municipality, and for local self-government representatives of emergency service
- Arrange riverbank clean up events
- Prepare recommendations to protect the community from floods
- Prepare and sign a petition for Vani municipality self governance for flood risk
