
Monitoring and Advocacy of the Implementation of Waste Recycling Commitments in Imereti Region
The project aims to facilitate the implementation of waste management commitments made within the framework of the Association Agreement with the European Union in the municipalities of Imereti region on waste recycling/composting.
The activities of the project are aimed at monitoring and advocating the commitments under the Association Agreement with the European Union, such as:
- preparation of waste management action plans in accordance with the five-level waste hierarchy and development of waste prevention programs (2009/98/EC directive on waste) that were scheduled to be completed by September 1, 2020;
- development of a national strategy to reduce landfilling of biodegradable municipal waste (1999/31/EC Directive on Landfills as amended by Regulation (EC) N1882/2003). Article 5(1) of this regulation scheduled to be fulfilled by September 1, 2020.
The project is being implemented with the support of the Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia (CSRDG), within the framework of the “Civil Society Initiative” project.
The project is funded by the European Union and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
